Fiat 500 Restoration Series part 4: fitting work
Welcome back to our Fiat 500 restoration series! In this fourth installment, we dive into the exciting phase of fitting and assembling the various components of our beloved classic car. After weeks of meticulous preparation, it’s finally time to see the Fiat 500 come together piece by piece.
Preparing for Assembly
With the bodywork, painting, and mechanical restorations completed, we meticulously check all parts to ensure they’re in pristine condition. Each component is laid out, organized, and ready for the big reassembly.
Engine and Transmission Installation
The heart of our Fiat 500, the engine, is the first major piece to be fitted. We carefully lower the engine into the bay, ensuring all mounts align perfectly. Next, the transmission is bolted in, connecting smoothly to the engine. This crucial step marks the beginning of our car’s rebirth.
Suspension and Brakes
Installing the suspension and brakes is a critical part of ensuring our Fiat 500 not only looks great but also performs safely. New shocks, springs, and brake components are fitted with precision, ready to support the car’s weight and ensure optimal handling.
Interior Assembly
The interior of the Fiat 500 gets a complete makeover. From seats to dashboard, every detail is attended to. We install the newly upholstered seats, a restored steering wheel, and a pristine dashboard, recreating the classic look and feel of the original car.
Electrical System
Rewiring the electrical system is a meticulous task, ensuring all lights, gauges, and electrical components function correctly. With a modernized yet authentic wiring harness, the Fiat 500’s electrical system is brought back to life.
Final Touches
As we near the end of the assembly, we add the final touches – fitting the doors, installing the windows, and ensuring all trim pieces are securely in place. Each step is taken with care to ensure everything fits perfectly and functions as intended.
Bringing It All Together
With all major components installed, we conduct a thorough check to ensure everything is in working order. The Fiat 500 is now fully assembled and ready for its first test drive since the restoration began.
